Shopee Smart Template is a listing assistant in Seller Centre and the Shopee Seller App that suggests or pre-fills listing details when you upload product images. It can save typing when you add or refresh products, but the listing you publish is still yours, and Shopee’s listing rules still apply to it. Before 11.11 and 12.12, we recommend checking every pre-filled name, category, brand and attribute by hand. Brands Win is a Singapore-based agency that manages Shopee stores and ads for consumer brands.

What Shopee Smart Template is

Shopee flags Smart Template as new in its Listing your first product guide (Shopee SG Seller Education Hub, dated 28 August 2026, read 21 October 2026). Shopee describes Smart Template as “an algorithm-powered listing assistant available on both Seller Centre (PC) and the Shopee Seller App”.

The core idea is in one sentence: “When sellers upload product images, Smart Template can recommend or pre-fill key product information, reducing the amount of manual input required when creating a listing.”

Shopee adds that “The enhanced interface also provides clearer suggestions and guidance throughout the listing process.”

The same section now sits at the top of Shopee’s Listing a product on Seller Centre page (Shopee SG Seller Education Hub, dated 11 October 2024, read 21 October 2026). That page still carries its original date, so the August guide is the better date marker for the Smart Template section.

Shopee calls the tool algorithm-powered but does not explain how suggestions are made, and the stated benefit is less manual input. Shopee does not say Smart Template changes how listings perform in search, and neither do we.

Which fields Smart Template fills in

Shopee’s listing flow starts with the Basic Information section, which covers product images, product video, product name, category and product description. Shopee’s note on that section says that with Smart Template, the product name, product category and description will be pre-filled or recommended when a product image is uploaded.

The Specification section is next. This is where you fill in mandatory product attributes such as Brand or Material, and Shopee says the attributes required depend on the product’s category. Here, Shopee’s note reads: “With Smart Template, selected fields in the Specification tab will be pre-filled / recommended when a Product Image is uploaded.”

Notice the word “selected”. Shopee does not say every attribute is covered, so some fields will still be blank and others may need correcting.

Shopee also mentions that “You may see category recommendations based on the product images and name you’ve provided.”

What about the Sales Information section, which covers variations, stock, wholesale tiers and size charts among other fields? Shopee’s page does not say Smart Template fills in any of them. Treat them as fully manual until Shopee’s guidance says otherwise.

Why you still need to check every pre-filled listing

A suggestion is a starting point, not an approval. Our recommendation is to read every pre-filled field as if a new team member had typed it, then compare it with Shopee’s own guidance.

Product name. Shopee’s suggested naming convention is “brand + specifications and type + model”, and its advice is to “Avoid ALL CAPS, unnecessary symbols, and keyword spams”. A suggested name that stacks search terms, or leaves out your brand, should be rewritten before you publish.

Category. Shopee says: “Having a relevant product name and the right category ensures shoppers can find your product easily during search.” We recommend confirming the most specific category match.

Brand attribute. The brand field matters more than it looks. Choosing the wrong brand is treated as attribute spam, which we cover in the next section.

Description. Shopee suggests that “you should include the product’s technical specifications, unique features, and warranty information (if applicable).” A pre-filled description may be generic. Add the details only you know, such as materials, care instructions or what is in the box.

Here is a hypothetical example to make it concrete. A Singapore skincare brand lists a new serum with Smart Template. The pre-filled name repeats ‘serum’ several times and the category is close but not exact. The team rewrites the name to brand, product and size, then picks the more specific category before publishing.

Shopee’s spam rules still apply

Smart Template does not change Shopee’s listing policies, and a pre-filled field that breaks them is still a problem for the seller.

Start with keyword spam. Shopee’s What is keyword spam? page (Shopee SG Seller Education Hub, dated 18 August 2020, read 21 October 2026) is old but still live, and it is blunt: “Shopee strictly prohibits the use of irrelevant keywords to manipulate search ranking results.” The page says excessive keywords are detected when a title includes extra information that isn’t needed, mentions more than two different types of product, or repeats the same keywords so often that it sounds unnatural. Shopee’s advice is to move additional details into the product description instead.

Shopee’s Spam listings page (Shopee SG Seller Education Hub, dated 20 January 2026, read 21 October 2026) lists the wider set: “Spam listings include duplicate listings, price spam listings, keyword spam listings, and attribute spam listings.”

On duplicates, the guidance is simple: “Choose the category most relevant for your product instead of putting them in two categories.” If a suggested category differs from one you used before, fix the existing listing rather than creating a second one.

On attribute spam, Shopee says: “Products with brands that are incorrectly selected will be flagged as attribute spam.” Sellers are given a set period to correct flagged listings. If they are not corrected in time, Shopee says the listing will be banned, and repeated offences can lead to the listing being deleted. If your brand isn’t in the dropdown list, Shopee lets you apply to add it, and unbranded products can use the “No Brand” option.

A pre-12.12 listing routine

The routine below is our recommendation, not a Shopee requirement. It is built around Shopee’s published guidance and the busy weeks before 11.11 and 12.12.

  1. Start where it matters most. Review your best sellers and the products in your 11.11 and 12.12 promotions first, then work through the rest of the catalogue.
  2. Check the name. Compare it with Shopee’s naming convention. Remove repeated terms, unrelated product types and anything in all caps.
  3. Check the category and brand. Confirm the most specific category and the correct brand, or “No Brand” where that applies.
  4. Fill the mandatory attributes. Check that every attribute marked with an asterisk is complete and accurate, including any that Smart Template left blank.
  5. Use standard variation names. When you add variations, Shopee shows a dropdown of standard names and says choosing one “will help your product appear in more searches.”
  6. Keep one listing per product. Don’t list the same item in two categories.
  7. Review the images. Shopee’s tip is that “Listings with multiple high-resolution images that show the product clearly tend to attract more buyers.” Make sure the cover photo shows the actual product.

If AI tools were used to create or edit your product images or video, read our guide to AI content rules on Shopee before you publish. The labelling rules are covered there.

Listing quality is one part of running a Shopee store well. Our page on Shopee store and ads management covers product listings, shop page set-up and Shopee Ads campaigns for consumer brands. At Brands Win, we plan listing reviews like this inside Growth System 90, so catalogue checks are scheduled ahead of peak periods rather than squeezed in at the last minute.

FAQs: Shopee Smart Template

What is Shopee Smart Template?

Smart Template is a listing assistant from Shopee, available in Seller Centre on PC and in the Shopee Seller App. When you upload product images, it can recommend or pre-fill key product information, so you type less when you create a listing.

Which listing fields does Smart Template fill in?

Shopee says the product name, product category and description are pre-filled or recommended when you upload a product image, along with selected fields in the Specification tab. You still need to check each field before you publish.

Is Smart Template available in Singapore?

Yes. Shopee describes it in its Singapore Seller Education Hub, in the guide to listing a product on Seller Centre and the Shopee Seller App. If you don’t see it when you create a listing, check Shopee’s latest guidance in Seller Centre.

Can Smart Template cause a listing violation?

The tool itself is not a violation, but you are responsible for what you publish. If a pre-filled name repeats keywords, uses irrelevant terms, picks the wrong category or selects the wrong brand, the listing can run into Shopee’s keyword spam, duplicate listing or attribute spam rules.

How should I name products on Shopee?

Shopee suggests the convention brand + specifications and type + model, and advises avoiding all caps, unnecessary symbols and keyword spam. Extra details belong in the product description rather than the product name.

What should Singapore brands check before 11.11 and 12.12?

Start with your best sellers and promoted products. Check the product name, category, brand, mandatory attributes, variation names and description, remove duplicate listings, and make sure the images show the product clearly.
